Do you provide Essay Writing Assistance?

Absolutely! It's what we do best (based on past student surveys) and is included in every course in the form of audio and video (where applicable) lectures, sample answers and workshops for Essays and Performance Tests. In addition, students in the Mentored and Premium Mentored courses receive one on one telephone conferences about their writing with the owner of Celebration Bar Review, Jackson Mumey. No other course in the country provides this high level of individual writing attention!

When do classes start?

Because this is a homestudy course, you can start at any time. We currently have students studying for the July 2008 and later exams. Feb and July 2009 courses are also now available. CA Baby Bar students can enroll for any 2008 or 2009 course. Selcted early enrollment discounts are also available when you order from our online web storefront. Return to Top

How current are your materials?

We constantly update our written materials and print each set of books on demand for the very latest information. Lectures are always being updated to reflect new areas of emphasis on the exams and the latest techniques in effective learning. We've just completed a Major Revision to our lecture series for the 2008 Exams and added the Licensed 2006 MBE Annotated Preview from the NCBE to our group of over 1500 licensed MBE questions. New lectures, sample and model essay answers and MPT lectures have been added in each course we offer!
We also update our online courses constantly for the most current information possible. Compared to the big courses that print their books a year in advance, we are by far the most current bar review course available nationally!
Updates are automatically provided to our registered students throughout their enrollment so there's no need to worry about missing any new trends.

Do you have sample lectures I can listen to?

Yes. We've placed our introductory lectures for each course on the web and they can be accessed at no charge using free RealPlayer software. You can also see a sample of our written materials and MBE Questions by filling out a short information form and following the links.

What makes Celebration Bar Exam Review different from other courses?

The level of personal attention is much greater in the Celebration Bar Exam Review program. While other bar reviews may teach the same substantive law, only Celebration Bar Exam Review provides home study flexibility, comprehensive course materials and personal attention from the nation's leading bar exam expert.  Our students tell us that we teach to the exam rather than offering generic law study and we offer the chance to begin your studies much earlier than traditional classroom courses would allow. Plus, our New Premium Mentoring Service offers the Ultimate Bar Review Course available in the industry! And, of course, it's MUCH less expensive than a traditional classroom course. Here's some of the other criteria we think you can use to compare courses.

What's the difference between Celebration Bar Exam Review and "The Study Group"?

When we first began in 1995 as a successor to SMH Bar Review, we had an affiliate in Virginia and both courses were called "The Study Group." In 1999, we decided that the two courses were different enough that they needed separate identities. Today Celebration Bar Exam Review prides itself on a program of  personal telephone mentoring for writing and substantive questions and a unique online and iPod delivery system for course materials. The two companies are no longer related, although we still share many of the same ideas about effective home study preparation. We retained our corporate name of The Study Group Inc. and are a Florida Corporation doing business as Celebration Bar Exam Review.

Do I need to take any supplemental courses?

No. Our course is complete and no extra courses are necessary. We do not coordinate with or recommend any supplemental course for our students.

How many Multistate Questions are included in the course?

Our Multistate bar exam course includes over 1500 questions, most of which are past MBE Questions. We are licensed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners to use these questions, which means that we don't have to make up questions, but can use the "real thing." Each question has a separate explanation for each answer choice so there are over 5600 pieces of information in our MBE course. The course also includes 3+ full-length past MBE's (including the most recently released 2006 MBE Annotated Preview) for final practice and review, plus a final Multistate Nutshell that condenses MBE principles into easily digested pieces.

Do you have State Essay Questions and/or Performance Tests for practice?

Yes. Each State course contains hundreds of sample questions for your practice. For States that use the Multistate Performance Test we provide past MPT exams, licensed to us by the National Conference of Bar Examiners for practice. Additionally, each course has essay writing and performance test workshops to teach you how to prepare successful answers on the state part of the exam plus a new additional MPT Workshop reviewing two recent MPT Questions and Answers.

How much personal attention will I receive?

That’s up to you. We have two separate mentoring options, ranging from full assistance to minimal direction. In addition, our New Premium Mentoring Service offers the Ultimate Bar Review Course available in the industry! This extra service is only available to 25 students per exam and is in addition to our regular mentored course.

For every registered student, our bar review expert - Jackson Mumey is available by toll free phone, email or fax. Phone conferences are held during office hours which are usually from 2pm - 7pm M-F eastern time. Office hours vary and students are informed of the available hours each Monday by email.

To assure consistency, you will be directed to send specific written work to Jackson. The assignments are detailed in your Personal Study Guide. Most mentored students will have between 10-20 phone conferences during the course. Unsolicited material will not be accepted for review and there is a cutoff approximately 10 days before each exam for new submissions for conferences. (These requirements are waived for our Premium Mentored Students). Enrollment in the Mentored Course is quite limited and you are encouraged to register early for this course to assure a spot.

Some students talk to Jackson every few days, others less frequently. Every Celebration Bar Exam Review student receives email messages and online video webcasts before the bar to ensure consistent focus and support along with opportunities for study strategy conferences and substantive assistance. No matter which option you select, you get the attention and help you want, need and can afford.

What’s the difference in the mentoring options?

With the mentored program, you'll be directed to submit specific written assignments (essays and/or Performance Tests) to Jackson for review. All review is conducted by phone conferences. It's up to you to submit your work and contact Jackson during his office hours for critiques. No written critiques are provided in the course.

With the materials-only option, you don't submit any work for review. Instead, you can check your writing against our sample answers and listen to discussions of the questions on the audio lectures.

Most people know if they need the personal attention of the full mentored program, but if you're not sure that's the right option for you, we allow you to register for the materials only course now and upgrade to full mentoring later for an additional fee, provided space is still available in the course.

Of course, for those who demand the ultimate in service, our exclusive Premium Mentoring Service  is the most comprehensive package of features and mentoring available anywhere.

Why do you limit the number of mentored students in the course?

All of the mentoring by telephone is done with Jackson Mumey. In order to provide sufficient access to this bar exam expert during office hours, it's necessary to limit the number of enrolled mentored students. Over the years, the popularity of our course has made it necessary to limit the enrollment to assure access. As a result, you should enroll for the mentored course as soon as possible. No limits are placed on enrollment in the Materials-Only Course. Premium Mentoring Service is restricted to 25 students per exam.

What’s the difference between the "Traditional" and "Online" course options?

The two courses are identical. In most cases, there is a price difference that reflects the lower cost of providing materials online instead of the traditional homestudy method of books and iPods. With both courses you receive the same set of lectures, outlines, questions and choice of mentoring options.  Note, however, that our 3 day "Satisfaction Guarantee" does NOT apply to Online Orders due to the nature of the course materials when they are digitally downloaded to your computer.

Can I receive the lectures in CD Format?

To protect against unauthorized duplication of the lectures, CD's are not an option. Our Online course uses audio streaming technology. We also provide audio lectures in our New "Bar Review on the Go" Program using Apple Video iTouch, iPods and Audio iPods . We supply the iPod or iTouch with the lectures pre-loaded. A new option is our video iTouch that includes selected Lectures, Workshops and Podcasts in video format.

iPod and iTouch are Products of Apple, Inc.

What is the iPod Option?

We place our lectures on an Apple iPod or iTouch device and send it to you. In order to protect our intellectual property, we cannot put the lectures on your existing iPod. When you select this option, there is a $300 deposit required for use of the device. If you return the iPod or iTouch to us in working order within 30 days after the exam, we'll refund $150 of your deposit, or you may choose to forfeit the deposit and keep your device! Of course, as always, no copying or duplication of our audio lectures is permitted. A new option is our video iTouch that includes selected Lectures, Workshops and Webcasts in video format.

iPod and iTouch are Products of Apple, Inc.

Can I purchase the course in BOTH Traditional and Online Formats?

Yes. Our web storefront contains all the options and pricing so you can pick and choose the combination that best suits your needs.  Click here to see the order page

If you only want the Online Multistate Personal Trainer Questions with the Traditional Course, there is an additional $295 fee. (Note that the fee for the Trainer Questions purchased alone is $495).

What’s your pass rate?

Simply buying a bar review course is no guarantee of success, but for those students who complete the assignments in their Celebration Bar Exam Review Personal Study Guide™ we have the highest published pass rates for the jurisdictions we service. Check Our Pass Guarantee for details of the offer.  Please note that the Bar Exam Pass Guarantee is NOT available for materials-only or partial courses (e.g., Multistate only).

Do you have references for me to check?

Our course is now in its 13th year - that makes us one of the oldest and most reliable courses in the country - and has grown primarily by word of mouth. While our very first students may know us as "The Study Group," (we changed our name quite a few years ago) our thousands of students tell us that they appreciate the personal flexibility and quality assistance to pass the bar exam that we have provided for more than a decade. In return, for reasons of privacy and confidentiality, we don’t give out past student phone numbers. Instead we publish a number of student testimonials that you are welcome to read. Many of those past students have agreed to permit their email addresses be included. You'll see those links where available. Feel free to correspond with them about their experience with Celebration Bar Exam Review. We also provide a sample of comments from students who did not pass their exams (something that no other competitor has ever done to our knowledge).

In addition, we provide a 3 day Satisfaction Guarantee on Traditional Format Courses that allows you to review our materials and return them if you’re not satisfied for any reason. Please note that Online Courses are not covered by the 3 day return policy.

Yes. It applies to our Traditional Format (Books and iPod) courses, but does NOT apply to the Online Courses.  The Guarantee is on the bottom of the Enrollment Form. It says:

Any amounts paid, less an administrative fee of $75, will be refunded if the student notifies Celebration Bar Exam Review within 3 days of receipt of materials of dissatisfaction for any reason.  Refund requests must be sent in writing. All materials must be returned at the student’s expense with a return postmark within 3 days of initial receipt. Books must be unmarked to receive a refund. No other returns or refunds will be made after the 3 day period expires, regardless of whether the student actually takes the exam. No other requests for refunds will be honored.  Offer does not apply to orders placed within 30 days of the exam date noted above, nor does it apply to any Online Course.

Is this a "Crash Course?"

No, it's not. We don't think that's an effective way to learn and our pass rates over the years support that view. As a result, we encourage students to start early and we reserve the last two weeks before the exam for review. That means that we don't allow students (other than the Premium Mentored Students)  to submit new work for critique during the final 10 days before the exam.

What if I register and then need to defer taking the exam?

We allow one deferral with a $495 charge, provided you notify us more than 30 days in advance of the exam in writing. Details are found on our Enrollment Form. When you defer, you forfeit any Pass Guarantee, and your deferral is good for only the next scheduled exam.  Once we've granted your deferral, you may keep your  iPod or iTouch until 30 days after the new exam date before returning them to receive the $150 of your deposit back.

If you defer within 30 days of the exam, or for a 2nd time or more, there is a Retake charge to keep the  materials and remain in the course to receive our services. Fees are subject to change without notice.
iPod and iTouch are Products of Apple, Inc.

How long does it take to complete the course?

That depends on the course and the exam, but generally, most of our courses contain between 60-90 separate three-hour assignments plus specific review work following the basic course of study. The initial assignments include listening to the audio lectures, reading the outlines and practicing the questions. Most of our students will study for 4-6 months prior to the exam at an average of 10 hours of study per week. Foreign Trained Attorneys should plan on longer study times, particularly if English is not your first language.

Are the lectures mine to keep?

No.The lectures are our proprietary and copyrighted materials and MUST be returned after the bar exam. Further, they cannot be copied, duplicated or transcribed. To insure their return, there is a deposit that is paid when you enroll and refunded after the audios are returned to us. Please note, however, that if you defer your exam date, you can only receive it back if the iPod or iTouch is returned within 30 days of the deferred bar date.

If you do not return your iPod or iTouch, the lecture material still remains the copyrighted property of Celebration Bar Exam Review and may not be distributed, duplicated or copied for any other person. Please note that we scan eBay and other online auction sites for listings of our materials. If a student attempts to resell any of our course materials, we reserve the right to inform the appropriate Bar Examiners of that individual's violation of our copyrights.

Is the iPod or iTouch mine to keep?

That's up to you. When you order the course, you will pay a $300 deposit (larger deposits are required for video iPods and iTouch - see the iPod page for details). If you wish to return the iPod or iTouch after the exam, we will refund $150 to you by check. Alternatively, you may forfeit the deposit and keep the device. Please note, however, that the files on the iPod or iTouch remain our copyrighted and proprietary material and  cannot be resold, distributed or copied for any other person.
